Mr Sam Cohen wanted me to take 2.5 mg of Finasteride. The approved dosage is 1 mg. And even at 1 mg, Merck Sharp & Dohme had upgraded its warning in December 2008 to include MALE BREASTS and male breast CANCER.
Mr Samuel Faraj Cohen of IHRB has a standard contract which shows that for some patients, he goes as high as 6.25 mg. Mr Cohen never told me about these risks and warnings, yet he was teasing me and my doctors for not taking his advice to dose myself up with a whole range of non-approved and dangerous drugs.
The leaflet from Merck Sharp & Dohme that is included with each packet of Propecia and Proscar says, ‘Breast cancer has been reported in men taking finasteride 1 mg during the post-marketing period. Physicians should instruct their patients to promptly report any changes in the breast tissue such as lumps, pain, gynaecomastia or nipple discharge.’
The word ‘gynaecomastia’ refers to male breasts. I do understand that Propecia has helped thousands of men to stop hair loss. Indeed I believe that Merck Sharp and Dohme is a reputable company. This is why it has done the right thing to report about this and to warn its consumers. Sadly, Mr Sam Cohen of IHRB never warned me that his treatment, for which he took my money, would involve risks. He kept assuring me that all his clients are satisfied. I doubt that he has conducted any medical checks on them. Of course he leaves all that to the client’s own GPs. Sadly, the GP has no idea that Mr Cohen is upping the dosages to such ridiculous levels.
More about the risks, including a Propecia and Proscar (Finasteride) warning that some men might never be able to have another erection, even after stopping the drug, is outlined here . This link also explains how you can obtain a copy of the warning sheet from the manufacturer’s site.
UPDATE: Here is a story on Nine MSN about a man who grew breasts . And here is a link to how the pharmaceutical companies are not ethical , paying billions in fines, while no executive goes to prison.
P.S. IHRB is the name of the Institute of Hair Regrowth and Beauty run by Sam Cohen of 105 Pitt Street Sydney. It is also written as Institute of Hair Regrowth & Beauty or Institute of Hair Re-growth & Beauty.
